The other Boleyn girl

" I felt like a parcel, like the curtains for a bed, or the plates for the top table, or the pewter for the lower tables in the hall" pg 58

As I read this quote, I realized how privileged I was to be able to make my own choices and decide my own future.
In the book, "the other Boleyn girl", Mary Boleyn is an innocent pawn in her family's destructive and cruel plans in scheming to have Mary birth the king's baby. As a female, I can appreciate the comfort in knowing I have my own voice and an equal eye in society. On the other hand, I feel that this quote represents the different perceptions that parents and their kids may have. Parents seem to have a path or direction that they want their kids to follow and encourage them along, which consist of their ambitions and their goals. This may not be a disadvantage but everyone has the power to decide their own future. This quote represents how parenting has changed over the century, from pawning your children as means of prosperity and financial power, to valuing a relationship and having a connection with your children.

hat’s a very true opinion because today women are a man’s equal. Back then, women didn’t have a say in anything, much less their future or whom they desire to wed. I, as well, feel blessed to be living in Canada, a free country, with proper individual rights. I agree with the fact that in court children are only used to further their family’s name and hit the king’s spotlight. Once the King set his eye in Mary’s direction, she was forced to leave her husband to satisfy him and her family by giving birth to a healthy boy who would become England’s heir and lead the Howard family to tremendous success. It must have been awful for Mary to leave her children and not see them until a year later. Unfortunately it was not up to her as to when she could visit them and luckily that has changed in this generation. The Other Boleyn Girl highlights many different aspects of how lucky people are today to be living in Canada.

It’s true we are very lucky now in our society that we can make our own decisions and do what makes us happy instead of what pleases others. We should all have equal rights whether we a girl or a boy. Parents shouldn’t force there children to do such things against there will that can also hurt them emotionally and scar them for the rest of their life.
We are lucky to be born in this generation due to the fact that parents listen to our feelings and what we have to say instead of forcing things upon us.
Everybody should be considered as an equal and parents should definitely consider there kids feelngs first before doing something that they may regret forever.
